Challenge

Having worked with Hometown Advantage previously for Portland Walking Tour's website and brochure/rack card combo, they called on us again for another brochure project, this time for their most recent venture: Run Brain Run. And boy did our brains run wild on this project!

Hometown Advantage's founder, David, has a kick-awesome way of challenging us and this time was no different. One of the challenges for this project stemmed from the fact that the brochure wasn't necessarily going to be printed professionally and instead would likely be distributed via email. That meant that people would likely be printing on their own printers, some of which may be black and white (color contrast and margin issues); and it couldn't be too image-heavy (needed to keep file size down). Additionally, and much to David's credit, standing out and apart from competitors while keeping the message clear meant we had a balancing act of providing the content succinctly, ensuring it showed fun team-building while still keeping it all professional. To top it all off, we needed to create it using Apple Pages so David and his team could edit and update as needed.

Solution

We think David would agree, we hit all the marks. While we had a couple of very different ideas from the get go, the one we agreed on and went with kept things light, fun and clear. We purposely used bright colors and semi-chaotic graphical elements to give that element of fun. Knowing too much could potentially mean prospects may not take the company or services seriously, we had to balance it out. We did that by incorporating photos showing team-building in corporate environments and by sticking with a pretty tight grid structure.

This was an incredibly fun project to work on and as usual, we look forward to working with Hometown Advantage again in the near future!
