After completing the initial re-branding of PACE Turf we turned to the website. PACE's previous site did a great job of providing the information their members wanted. But it was clear that the PACE team really wanted to take their look and feel to the next level. In addition to that, they wanted to refine their existing ExpressionEngine-based site so that it would be easier for members and new visitors to find and read key information. What that meant was a slight re-organization of the content.
Using the new brand and re-organization as a starting point, we created two similar mockups for PACE to review and move forward with. Once a single direction was settled on, we refined each major section of the site so that every detail was covered. All in all, that meant we created 8 total mockups for each major section of the site, including the forum, photo gallery and member sections. Our next task was to begin coding the site inside ExpressionEngine so we could see the content live and how the new design would work with it. We did this by creating private pages that only our team and PACE Turf knew about and had access to.
We also re-themed their forum and photo gallery software to match the main parts of the site. One of our bigger challenges was to turn the weather update emails – newly designed to match the brand and site – on auto-pilot. That consisted of server-side scripting and cron job work that has paid off and worked well for their members.
Another challenge with the site was ensuring that the URLs stayed the same once launched due to the site already having good ranking and indexing in the search engines. Since we were able to work right in PACE's existing EE installation, this proved to be a relatively easy task. This project took about 7 months to complete. Visit PACE Turf »
