Logo design, identity style guide
Bob Strong of Oregon's Home Handyman, aka Handyman Bob, turned to us for some identity help. Having been the host of Around the House on 750 KXL for some time, and the sole proprietor of Oregon's Home Handyman for longer, Bob realized it was time to brand himself (more so than his company) the right way.
Part of our collaboration with Bob was to really define what route to take for his branding. After much discussion it was clear that he was the brand and not Oregon's Home Handyman (the company). To that extent we set off to create a logo for Handyman Bob.
Our goal for the brand as a whole, was (and continues to be) to build a strong foundation upon which Bob could grow his two core businesses: handyman/general contractor and radio personality. That included creating a logo that included key elements that make Bob, well, Bob. Those elements included his face, the bright yellow tape measure suspenders he's known for wearing and a microphone. In addition, we knew we needed to aim for a logo that was bright, lighthearted, and had a touch of humor.
Our solution was an illustrative logo featuring Bob and the elements previously mentioned. We went this route because it made 100% sense for this project. Leaving out Bob's face or his yellow suspenders would have been a dreadful mistake. Instead, we developed a logo that is instantly recognizable, memorable and that, much to our contentment, has been well received.
Because this project was more than just logo design, we also developed an Identity Style Guide for Handyman Bob. The ID Style Guide serves as a rule book of sorts that will help him keep his branding consistent across any medium.
