How do I setup my email account in Microsoft Outlook?

To set up your POP3 email account in Microsoft Outlook, follow the below steps explained below. Note: These instructions use Microsoft Outlook 2007, but the steps for Outlook 2003 are very similar. Please note that we do not officially support versions of Outlook below 2003.

  1. In Outlook, click on Tools > Account Settings...
  2. In the pop-up dialog box, click on the New... button under the E-mail tab.
  3. In the next pop-up dialog window:

    • Type your name (which is shown in the From: field when you send an email).
    • Type in your email address.
    • Enter your password
    • Retype your password in the Retype Password field.
  4. Before clicking next, ensure that the checkbox for manually configuring server settings is checked.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Choose Internet E-mail for the Internet Service options.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Your name, email address should already be set up. Make sure POP3 is selected in the Account Type (IMAP is discussed in another tutorial).
  9. For incoming mail server, use mail.mydomain.com (where mydomain.com is your domain).
  10. For outgoing mail server, use the same as incoming (mail.mydomain.com)
  11. Your user name is going to be your full email address.
  12. Then enter your password and make sure Remember password is checked.
  13. Before clicking next, click on More settings...
  14. In the new window, click on the Outgoing Server tab.
  15. Make sure the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox is checked.
  16. Then make sure the Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
  17. Click OK.
  18. Click Test Account Settings. Outlook will then send a test e-mail message and log on to the mail server to make sure the connections are okay. If you get an error, you may need to change port settings (see below). If you don't get an error, you should be all set.
  19. Click Close, then click Finish.

  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Test Account Settings again. If you still get an error, please get in touch with us. Otherwise, you should be all set!
