Yesterday EllisLab announced that ExpressionEngine 2.1 has been released, officially moving EE version 2 out of beta. Nice job guys!

With the release, ExpressionEngine.com also got a makeover, which is ridiculously simple, but definitely easy on the eyes. (To be perfectly honest, while others have immediately fallen in love with it, the new design is going to take some time to grow on me.)

So what does the new release mean? Didn't you read? It means EE 2 is out of beta!! Okay, so there's more to it than that, including version 1.x no longer available for purchase, restructured support forums and a new 30-day, 100% Money Back Guarantee. The biggest piece is 1.x not being available for purchase anymore. If you own a 1.x version of EE, you'll still have access to 1.x updates, but bug fixes will be provided at a reduced rate. Will 1.x be discontinued at some point? Yes, but when exactly remains to be seen. But since EE 2 is a stable product (we've been using it on at least 3 current projects), it would be a good idea to go ahead and upgrade. The new version is slicker, faster, prettier, easier to use in many cases and likely a tad bit more secure.

Read EllisLab's official announcement here. Then get to upgrading!
