Imagine these scenarios:
- A web design agency who uses a free template for their own site while trying to sell their custom design services to small businesses.
- A self-proclaimed SEO professional whose blog is poorly optimized and ranks nowhere visible in google.
- A car salesman working for Audi dealer who drives a Ford.
- A hair stylist that uses store-bought hair color though she and her salon sell other, better brands.
What do they all have in common? They're not drinking their own Kool-Aid.
More than just believing in what you sell
Anyone who is in business or sales has kool-aid they're trying to persuade people to give in to and purchase. It's not a bad thing. We all want to make money - we have bills to pay, food to buy, shelter to be had and indulgences we like to have. That's ok.
What's not okay is preaching how great your product is and then not even use it yourself. On the surface it's hypocritical. But look deeper. it makes you and your product lack credibility. Do you believe in what you sell and actually use it on a regular basis? No?
Then how can you expect anyone else to pay you money for it?
