It's a vicious cycle:
- A small business is seeing poor or no results from their website.
- They look for a website design company to help.
- The website design company sells them on redesigning the site.
- The business pays and goes through the process.
- 12 months later, the small business either sees a small improvement or still no results and looks for another web design firm and starts at step 1 again.
Who benefits? The website design company.
The problem with this cycle doesn't lie with the small business though. It lies with the web design company and their own ignorance of a client's needs. If a client needs a visual or branding refresh, a redesign or "realign" makes sense. But if website performance and ROI are the key issues, a redesign does nothing but address the symptoms, not the problem.
You see, when it comes to ensuring your site is actually bringing in the leads or the dollars to keep you moving forward, throwing up a new look isn't necessarily going to do the trick. What will work fully depends on a site's goals and an in-depth look at what's going on with the site, analytics, and marketing efforts. But what it boils down to is working with a business on an on-going basis to measure, test and repeat to find that sweet spot that will bring in the traffic, the sales, the leads. And that refers to way more than SEO.
A good web design agency will do so much more for clients than simply design and optimize a site for search engines. Truly working with clients to actually help them thrive and grow is absolutely fundamental for any good web design studio. The problem is, many small business owners don't realize this. Few web designers don't get it, and fewer yet don't offer it or don't know how to effectively provide this for their clients. Isn't it time you hire a web design agency that will actually be in it for the long haul?
